Dark Void enfoca uma luta velada de alguns poucos seres humanos contra a dominação de uma raça alienígena. Durante a trama, o jogador assume o controle de Will, um piloto de aviões comerciais que por acaso acaba sendo tragado para a dimensão alternativa dos Watchers após sobrevoar a região do Triângulo das Bermudas.
A maior parte ação realmente vertiginosa do jogo acontece durante os combates aéreos. Após passar algum tempo na dimensão alternativa, Will entra em contato com algumas amostras da avançada tecnologia dos Watchers. Seja por meios lícitos ou ilícitos (roubando mesmo), Will eventualmente poderá contar com um Jet Pack e também outros veículos aéreos.
Não obstante, muito do jogo ainda demandará um clássico tiroteio sobre duas pernas, o que utilizará, é claro, algumas armas saídas diretamente de clássicos de ficção-científica, mas também não deixa de lado armas mais tradicionais como uma metralhadora ou a boa e velha granada.

Se os pacotes de expansão servem para estender a experiência de determinado jogo, então não podemos classificar “Half-Life 2: Episode Two” desta maneira. O segundo capítulo da saga baseada em um dos melhores títulos dos últimos anos, é muito mais do que isso: é quase que um jogo completamente novo.

Embora ainda aproveite os elementos do original, como as armas e a maioria dos inimigos, “Episode Two” é uma adição e tanto à série. A começar pelos cenários inéditos, como cavernas escuras e claustrofóbicas e densas florestas, que fogem do clima excessivamente urbano e industrial dos anteriores. Há também um novo veículo: um carro superequipado, com o qual você passará por alguns dos momentos mais eletrizantes da série. Como em “Episode One”, Alyx Vance lhe fará companhia durante praticamente toda aventura, assim como outros personagens.

“Episode Two” começa onde “Episode One” parou, trazendo os eventos posteriores a “Half-Life 2”, de forma cronológica. Portanto, se você ainda não jogou o primeiro episódio e nem o jogo original, faça-o antes de vir para este, caso contrário, não entenderá bulhufas da história ou mesmo do universo da série. Aqui você vivenciará a jornada do cientista Gordon Freeman e da revolucionária Alyx até White Forest, onde se localiza o campo de resistência à raça alienígena Combine e seu plano imperialista.
